When on VPN, are your DNS requests heading off to the ISP instead of your internal DNS servers? Been over the settings a hundred times, and everything is perfect?
For some reason an XP workstation may decide never to use the DNS servers on a VPN connection no matter how hard you try. It turns out that this little trick to change the network connection binding order can make a difference (even if you've already tried changing the binding order in the networking "Advanced" settings):
Open Regedit and make your way to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\TCPIP\LINKAGE\BIND. Now cut the line in the multi-string value that reads "\Device\NdisWanIp" and paste it in a new line above all of the other device entries.
Try re-establishing your VPN connection, and perhaps if you're lucky, the nightmare will end.
